Hi, I’m Kara.
I am a passionate foodie, an avid outdoor enthusiast, and a Registered Dietitian. Although I have always loved being active, my passion for vegetarian cooking didn’t start until I reached university when I learned about the health and environmental benefits of meatless cooking. I started experimenting with vegetarian cooking, discovered how diverse and tasty it can be, and I have never looked back.
When I am not in the kitchen, I love to be out hiking or snowshoeing on the North Shore mountains with my dog Ella. I also enjoy running, yoga, and biking.
In 2012, I completed my first two half marathons. Last year I participated as a Sun Run group leader where I (hopefully) transferred my passion for health and fitness to participants in the Sport Med BC Sun Run in Training Program. I am happy to say that I will be back volunteering again as a leader this year.
I completed an undergraduate degree in Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of British Columbia
I currently practice as a clinical dietitian in Burnaby, Abbotsford, and Maple Ridge and offer private consultations in North Vancouver through North Shore Sports Medicine. My practice at North Shore Sports Medicine is focused on promoting balanced nutrition as the foundation for healthy lifestyles for individuals and their families as well as diet counselling for sports nutrition, weight management, and helping individuals to manage various chronic diseases through diet and lifestyle modifications. I offer one-on-one nutrition counselling, as well as options for couple’s nutrition counselling, group/team nutrition counselling, grocery store tours, and group presentations.
I am currently enrolled in the International Olympic Committee’s Diploma in Sports Nutrition program, and expect to graduate in the fall of 2014.
I am a full registrant with the British Columbia College of Dietitians, a member of Dietitians of Canada, and a BC NET representative for the Dietitians of Canada -Sports Nutrition Network.
